Data Accuracy and Integrity
At the Center for Energy and Economics Studies, the integrity of published research is a cornerstone of our commitment to advancing knowledge. This Data Accuracy and Integrity Policy outlines the expectations for authors regarding the presentation, accuracy, and ethical handling of data in their submissions.
Policy Overview
- Author Responsibilities
- Authors must ensure that all data presented in their work is accurate, reliable, and obtained through ethical methods.
- Data should be clearly documented, with sufficient detail to allow replication and verification by other researchers.
- Prohibition of Data Fabrication and Manipulation
- Fabrication: Creating and presenting false data as if it were genuine.
- Manipulation: Altering or selectively reporting data to mislead or misrepresent research outcomes.
- Both practices are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate rejection of the manuscript or retraction of the published work.
- Transparency in Data Presentation
- Authors are encouraged to share raw data or datasets as supplementary materials to promote transparency and reproducibility.
- Any modifications to data (e.g., transformations or exclusions) must be explicitly described and justified in the manuscript.
- Third-Party Data and Permissions
- If authors use data from third-party sources, proper permissions must be obtained, and sources must be fully cited.
- Authors are responsible for verifying the validity and reliability of such data.
- Ethical Use of Statistical Methods
- Authors must employ appropriate statistical methods and report them accurately.
- Misleading use of statistical techniques to distort findings is considered unethical.
- Consequences of Violations
- Submissions containing fabricated, manipulated, or otherwise inaccurate data will be rejected outright.
- If such issues are discovered post-publication, the work will be retracted, and the authors’ institutions may be notified.
- Data Verification
- The editorial team reserves the right to request access to raw data for verification purposes during the review process.
